The signer of the document that is to be notarized must have valid identification. This may be a state/government picture ID & cannot be expired. There are other options if the signer doesn't have the required ID, such as using credible witnesses.
If your documents require witnesses, please gather the witnesses you need. The witnesses must be at least 18 years old. The witnesses cannot have any interest in the documents. Witnesses must be completely impartial and also must show valid ID.
Due to the CDC guidelines for COVID-19 many facilities such as hospitals and assisted living facilities require approval for visitation of multiple people. Also, confirm their policies regarding staff witnessing documents if needed.
A Notary Public, cannot offer legal advise unless they are an attorney. Therefore, the signer must carefully read and understand the terms to what the document states. If the signer does not understand or is not competent, the notarization cannot be completed.
